Adani Power is reportedly building a new 1,600 megawatt (2×800 MW) ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, as part of its strategy to double its thermal capacity to around 30 MW.
According to a report in the Economic Times, the unit is being built by Adani Power’s subsidiary Mirzapur Thermal Energy (UP) Pvt Ltd MTEUPL. According to the report, Adani Power plans to expand its thermal portfolio from 15.25 GW to 30.67 GW by 2030.
The report said the company is expected to spend around Rs 14,000 crore on the project.
Meanwhile, shares of Adani Power Ltd were trading lower today. The last check showed the stock down 2.14% at Rs 718.75. However, it has climbed 36.83% year-to-date (YTD).
Adani Power said in a presentation to analysts on Wednesday: « MTEUPL has suitable land for setting up a large-scale thermal power plant in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh, which will provide the company with an opportunity to expand its generation capacity as well as geographical footprint in India, in line with its long-term strategy. »
He said that « capacity addition of supercritical and energy-efficient thermal power plants will continue to grow, with revised projections of capacity addition of 80 GW+. »
Adani Power has also launched the development of a 1,600 MW (2X800 MW) ultra-supercritical thermal power plant expansion project in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, where a 1,370 MW plant already exists.
