Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan on Monday held wide-ranging talks with Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Aleksandr Moiseev in a bid to strengthen maritime cooperation between the two sides.
Admiral Moiseev is visiting India from August 19 to 22.
The discussions underscored mutual commitment to strengthening maritime security, deepening strategic cooperation and promoting a stronger defense partnership between the two nations, the Integrated Defense Staff Headquarters said.
Admiral Moiseyev also held talks with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.
The discussions focused on establishing collaborative mechanisms to further strengthen maritime security cooperation between the two navies, officials said.
Admiral Moiseev’s visit is a testament to the long-standing relationship between the Russian and Indian navies, the Defense Ministry said.
« The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral naval relations between India and Russia as well as exploring new avenues of naval cooperation, » he said.
Admiral Moiseev will also visit Mumbai, where he will hold bilateral talks with the Commander-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, and visit indigenous warships and submarines.
The Indian Navy’s frontline frigate INS Tabar made a port call at St Petersburg in Russia last month, reflecting the growing maritime security ties between the two sides.
The ship took part in the celebrations of the 328th Russian Navy Day parade.
The visit of INS Tabar was aimed at strengthening the long-standing friendship and exploring new avenues to strengthen maritime ties, the Indian Navy said.
