A former technical engineer from Bengaluru, now living as a beggar, has become a stark reminder of the dangers of alcohol addiction. Disheveled and dressed in a red T-shirt, the man was spotted on the streets of Jayanagar, where he shared his story with a passerby, saying he had once worked for a leading tech company at Global Village Tech Park, now Sattva Global City.
His whereabouts were revealed after Instagram user @sharath_yuvaraja_official uploaded three videos documenting the man’s story. In the clips, the former technician explained how the loss of his parents led him to alcoholism, ultimately derailing his life and forcing him to beg to survive.
The videos, which have since gone viral, show the man speaking on a variety of topics, from meditation to the philosophy of David Hume and the theories of Albert Einstein. At one point, he reflected on his situation, saying, “Religion, caste, all these things… look what I have become. I need to read more, I need to read more.
According to Sharath, the man was initially found on JSS College Road in Jayanagar’s 8th block, although others reported seeing him intoxicated a few days earlier in Jayanagar’s 4th block. Despite her efforts to offer assistance, he allegedly refused help.
In subsequent updates, Sharath revealed that he had contacted NGOs to help the man. However, a doctor appearing in one of the follow-up videos explained that no NGO could act without police involvement.
BT was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the message. This man’s story struck a chord with social media users, sparking discussions about mental health, substance abuse and the fragility of a seemingly successful life.
