Cyclone Michaung in Chennai: iPhone sellers Foxconn and Pegatron, as well as automaker Hyundai are among the companies that have suspended manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu due to the cyclonic conditions.
Cyclone Michaung wreaked havoc in Chennai and neighboring districts, flooding the city, causing disruptions to flights and trains, and surprising residents with a video showing a crocodile crossing a submerged road. Sources said several factories in and around Chennai have temporarily suspended operations.
When contacted, a Hyundai Motor India spokesperson said, “Considering the safety and well-being of our employees in the cyclonic conditions prevailing in Chennai and surrounding districts, plant operations (all teams) at the Hyundai Motor India plant in Sriperumbudur have been suspended for today. No comments were received from Foxconn and Pegatron. Foxconn and Pegatron are engaged in iPhone manufacturing. Pegatron briefly suspended iPhone production in September after a minor fire.
