The country’s food safety regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo for serving « unsafe food » to a passenger, just days after the discovery of a worm in a sandwich served on board a flight.
On Wednesday, Indigo said it had received the show cause notice and would respond as per protocol.
On December 29, an incident occurred on board flight 6E 6107 from Delhi to Mumbai. After the passenger uploaded a video to social media, the airline apologized.
On January 2, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) asked the airline to show cause why its license should not be suspended or cancelled, and that action be taken in accordance with the Safety and Standards Act (FSS) to provide dangerous food.
The airline has seven days to respond to the notification.
According to an IndiGo representative, the airline has received a ‘show cause notice’ from FSSAI regarding a food item delivered on flight 6E 6107 from Delhi to Mumbai. We will respond to the notice in accordance with protocol.”
Kushboo Gupta, a passenger, discovered a worm in the sandwich served on board the plane last week. IndiGo apologized and said the situation was being fully investigated after posting a video on social media.
The traveler posted a brief video of the worm in the sandwich on Instagram during the flight.
