The Congress party plans to release a ‘black book’ on the 10 years of the Modi government in response to the BJP’s ‘white paper’ against the 10 years of the UPA government.
According to sources telling news agency ANI, the ‘black book’ would be presented by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The Center plans to base its ‘white paper’ on the UPA government’s ‘economic mismanagement’. It will detail the « negative impact » of the Congress-led UPA government on the Indian economy and the positive steps that could have been taken at that time.
The finance minister, while presenting the budget on February 1, said the central government would compare the state of the Indian economy before and after 2014 in the ‘white paper’. She said the crisis of those years had now been overcome and the economy was firmly on the path to sustainable growth.
BJP leader and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance Jayant Sinha on Wednesday said the government’s proposed ‘white paper’ would highlight how the current government has brought about turnaround in the Indian economy. India was among the world’s « five fragile economies » under the UPA regime, Sinha said.
« India’s GDP growth slowed down to 5 per cent, inflation increased to 10 per cent, banks’ NPAs increased to 10 per cent. The country was facing a balance of payments crisis, » asserted the MP from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.
The ‘white paper’ is expected to be a reversal of Congress rule as the country gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, expected in April-May.
