The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Friday asked airlines to improve assistance to passengers in the event of flight delays to improve convenience in the event of disruptions. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued a notice requiring airlines to provide specific services depending on the length of the delay.
For delays of up to two hours, airlines must offer drinking water, the DGCA said on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Delays of between two and four hours will see the provision of tea or coffee, as well as snacks or refreshments. For delays of more than four hours, airlines must provide meals, the message added.
The directive follows a meeting chaired by Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Wednesday, during which he discussed fog preparedness measures with stakeholders. The minister stressed the importance of airlines informing passengers of delays in advance and ensuring check-in counters are adequately staffed to minimize travel disruption.
