Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, Union Minister JP Nadda, state ministers Jitendra Singh and Kirti Vardhan Singh were also present on the occasion to welcome the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The visit will provide a « major boost » to India-Bangladesh relations, the foreign ministry’s official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a social media post.

Jaishankar had visited the Bangladesh Prime Minister yesterday and after the meeting, the Union minister said her state visit highlighted the « close and enduring ties » between the two countries.

New Minister of State for External Affairs (MoS) Kirtivardhan Singh welcomed the visiting Prime Minister of Bangladesh at the airport on his arrival.
This is the first post-government bilateral state visit to India following the 18th Lok Sabha elections, the MEA said in a statement issued a day ago.
“During the visit, apart from bilateral consultations with the Prime Minister, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar,” the foreign ministry statement said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was among international leaders who attended the inauguration ceremony of the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers on June 9.
Over the years, India and Bangladesh have forged a multifaceted relationship, marked by shared history, culture and geographical proximity.
The two neighbors enjoy warm relations, which have further expanded under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Sheikh Hasina.
The year 2023 was marked by a surge in bilateral activities between the two countries, an embodiment of the strength of the relations.
The two Prime Ministers jointly inaugurated the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline on March 18 in a virtual format.
The Bangladeshi Prime Minister also participated virtually in the inaugural session of the Voice of the Global South Summit on January 11, 2023 and the second Virtual Voice of the Global South Summit on November 17, 2023.
