The Government of India has approved the appointment of Ravi Agarwal as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes. He has been a member of the CBDT (Administration) since July 2023.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Saturday issued an order appointing Agarwala as the chairman with effect from July 1. He will hold the post till his retirement on September 30, 2024. After his retirement, a contract extension will take place till June 30, 2025.
The reappointment contract will include the usual terms and conditions that apply to re-employed central government officials.
He will succeed Nitin Gupta, who was appointed as CBDT chief in June 2022. He retired on September 30, 2023, but was reappointed by the government till June 30.
