The unemployment rate among graduates in the 15 and above age group fell to 13.4 percent in 2022-23, from 14.9 percent a year ago, according to a government survey.
According to the latest Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS), conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, the lowest unemployment rate among graduates aged 15 years and above was observed in Chandigarh in 5.6 percent, followed by Delhi with 5.7 percent. in 2022-23.
Data shows that the unemployment rate is highest in Andaman and Nicobar Island at 33 percent, followed by Ladakh at 26.5 percent and Andhra Pradesh at 24 percent.
Among the larger states, the unemployment rate was high in Rajasthan, at 23.1 percent, and Odisha, at 21.9 percent. Unemployment or unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of unemployed people in the labor force.
Given the importance of having data on the active population at more frequent time intervals, the NSSO launched the Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS) in April 2017. The reference period here is from July 2022 to June 2023.
Previously, five annual reports were published based on the data collected in the PLFS during the periods July 2017-June 2018, July 2018-June 2019, July 2019-June 2020, July 2020-June 2021 and July 2021-June 2022 .
The NSSO published the sixth annual report based on the periodic labor force survey conducted between July 2022 and June 2023.
“The field work for the collection of information regarding the samples, allocated for the period July 2022 to June 2023, was completed on time for the first visit as well as for the revisit samples, with the exception of 51 first visits and 68 revisit FSUs for the in the State of Manipur, allocated during the last quarter, April-June 2023, who were treated as casualties, due to the disturbed situation on the ground and the unavailability of Internet services,” the report said.
