The average voting percentage in West Bengal’s four Lok Sabha seats was recorded at an impressive 63.11 per cent in the first eight hours till 3 pm on Tuesday, according to the Chief Electoral Officer’s records.
Till 3 p.m., the highest polling rate was recorded in Murshidabad with 65.40 percent, followed by 62.90 percent in Maldaha-Dakshin, 62.57 percent in Jangipur and 61.50 percent in Maldaha-Uttar.
However, sporadic incidents of violence marred the third phase of Lok Sabha elections in the state as workers of the Trinamool Congress, Congress and BJP clashed in various parts of Murshidabad and Jangipur seats.
Over the past few hours, major reports of clashes between the Trinamool Congress and workers of the Left Front-Congress alliance have emerged from Domkal in Murshidabad, which has a notorious tradition of reporting maximum violence related in elections in any election.
Similarly, heavy shelling was reported by BJP and Trinamool Congress supporters in Ratua in Malda district.
The BJP alleged that after lunch, ruling Trinamool Congress workers hurled crude bombs at Ratua to terrorize voters.
Similarly, in Sujapur in Malda district, a Trinamool Congress booth representative was beaten up, allegedly by Congress activists.
Maldaha-Dakshin Congress candidate Isha Khan Chowdhury claimed that the Trinamool Congress was resorting to rumor as it had perceived that its defeat was final in this constituency.
Trinamool Congress candidate from the same constituency, Shahnawaz Ali Raihan, claimed that the unprovoked attack took place in the booth in front of the CAPF personnel present who stood as mute spectators.
